Outline of the Order of Daily Morning Prayer

1. Opening Sentences (pages 96 through 99): for

2. Penitential Rite (page 100 and 101):

This site uses the longer of the two introductions and modifying the introduction by striking "mercy." and inserting "mercy, saying.", as in the Book of Common Prayer prior to the 1979 revision on the grounds that "kneel in silence...and confess..." immediately followed by a confession spoken aloud by Officiate and People is illogical.

3. Invitatory (Pages 101 through 106):

The Pascha nostrum (page 106) used for the Invitatory from Easter Sunday until the Day of Pentecost; On Ash Wednesday, Holy Saturday, and all Fridays in Lent Psalm 95 (on page 104) is used for the Invitatory; the rest of the year use the Venite on page 103 for the Invitatory Psalm. The Jubilate on page 105 is not assigned to the Invitatory on this site and is, rather, read as it occurs in the course of the seven-week or 30-day cycle of Psalms.

4. The Psalm(s) apppointed for the day: according to the seven-week distribution of the Psalms in the Daily Office Lectionary, or, according to the 30-day cycle, in the Psalter, saying after each Psalm,
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,* and to the Holy Ghost:
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,* world without end. Amen.

5. Old Testament lesson assigned for the day.

6. A canticle.

The Book of Divine Worship has five canticles (incorrectly numbered 1, 2, 4, 6, and 7,) on pages 108 through 113), this site does not use the Gloria in excelis as that is assumed to be recited at Mass. For morning prayer this site suggests Benedictus es, Domine or Benedicite, omnia opera Domine.

7. New Testament lesson, with the Gospel in Year Two and the other N.T. lesson in Year One.

8. Canticle Benedictus Dominus Deus or, on Feasts and Solemnities, Te Deum laudamus.

9. Apostles' Creed (page 114).

10. office prayers (pages 115 and 116).

Note a typo in the BDW, on page 115, in the Our Father, the line "thy kingdom come," was omitted
